TRAUMA THERAPY

For recovery to take place the therapy environment is very important as is a person’s level of comfort and security with their therapist. Being able to provide continuity of care is essential and avoid victims having to tell their story over and over.

Trauma can affect the whole person and leave lasting impacts in visual, auditory and physical memories. Many common therapies only address thoughts and beliefs about the trauma. EMDR therapy helps individuals process the memory, makes important connections and desensitizes them to the emotional and physical trauma impacts.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)  Therapy is recognised as having the highest level of research evidence for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by the Australian Psychological Society (EBPI Review 2010).

Over 300 studies have been published showing EMDR Therapy to be effective for treating depression, anxiety, phobias, addictions, body dysmorphia and other mental health issues. EMDR has been used effectively with adults, but also with children and adolescents.

EMDR Therapy is popular because treatment outcomes occur in a shorter period of time than some other treatments and the changes have been shown to be permanent.

A number of practitioners at the Gnadenfrei Psychology & Counselling Centre have been trained in this very effective therapy.
